Empowering the Next Generation Through Community-Based Advocacy

At Hope for Single Mothers with Disability (HSMD Hopes), we believe that meaningful advocacy begins within communities—not just in meeting rooms or offices. Lasting change is achieved by engaging directly with the people we serve, listening to their experiences, and equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to become advocates for their own rights and the rights of others.

During a recent community engagement session, we focused on empowering the next generation of girls and young women with disabilities to understand their rights, speak up for themselves, and support one another in building safer, more inclusive communities.

The discussions encouraged participants to explore the importance of self-advocacy, leadership, gender equality, and protection from violence. By creating safe spaces for learning and dialogue, we are helping young people develop the confidence and skills needed to become active agents of change within their families and communities.

At HSMD Hopes, our vision is both simple and ambitious: a society where mothers and girls with disabilities are self-reliant, free from violence, and able to live with dignity and equal opportunities.

Witnessing the enthusiasm, courage, and commitment of the next generation reinforces our belief that sustainable change starts with empowered individuals. We are not only implementing projects—we are investing in future leaders and laying a strong foundation for equality, inclusion, and lasting social transformation.

Together with our partners and communities, HSMD Hopes remains committed to advancing the rights, empowerment, and well-being of women and girls with disabilities across Rwanda and beyond.
